Pawlikowski’s delicately shot, sensitively written, and beautifully acted film takes a terribly moving look at the plight of a young Russian woman and her son, who have misguidedly, in the absence of her English fiancé, managed to get themselves classified as refugees and shipped off to a miserable seaside town, where they meet a kindly bingo-caller from the midlands, who does his best to ease their plight.
