Two Frenchmen set off on foot on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, meeting various religiously significant figures from across time and space along the way, in Buñuel’s sardonically funny exploration of the good, the bad, and the ugly (emphasis on the latter two) of the thoroughly complicated and generally contradictory nature of Christian dogma.
