When an elderly Turkish immigrant is jailed for the manslaughter of his prostitute girlfriend, his son travels to Turkey to find the woman’s student daughter, intending to offer to pay for her tuition, but unbeknownst to him she is already in Germany fighting, with the help of her German girlfriend, against her extradition back to Turkey, from where she is a political refugee, in Akin’s intricately plotted, beautifully acted, and really quite moving if rather far fetched (in a grand, operatic kind of way) film of love, loss, and coincidence.
