Although still ridiculously, addictively entertaining, this third season is a decidedly more comfortable and less challenging watch than previously, with signs of Dexter’s less palatable side kept to a minimum, and his more human traits brought to the fore, with the result being more like a blackly comic soap than discomforting drama, as he finds an unlikely comrade-in-arms in Smits’s troubled D.A. Iain.Stott
