An army captain, who believes that he could do great things if only he had money, begins to woo the granddaughter of an aged countess, who sold her soul to the devil in exchange for the secret to winning at cards, in order to discover the secret for himself, in Dickinson’s handsomely photographed and consummately constructed if somewhat emotionally uninvolving supernatural tale.
