In Frears’s mildly diverting (in a continental lager advert sort of way) though half-baked and curiously undramatic film, a very wealthy middle-aged prostitute struggles to come to terms with the loss of her young lover, Chéri, the 25-year-old son of a work colleague and friend, who has recently been married off to a beautiful 18-year-old girl.
