When she comes to suspect her husband of having an affair, Catherine, a wealthy Parisian doctor, hires an attractive prostitute, Nathalie, to test his fidelity; but, when his misdoings are uncovered, instead of confronting him, she continues to pay Nathalie to sleep with him, building a strangely erotic bond between the two women, in Fontaine’s stylish and decidedly (if talkily) sexy film, which manages to transcend its painfully obvious twist.
