Evans is excellent in the central role – a well-drawn part amidst several sketchier ones – in this otherwise lacklustre romantic comedy and disappointing follow-up to Hunsinger and Hunter’s promising effort from 2001, The Lawless Heart, which details the complicated love life of a charmingly charmless Liverpudlian chancer, who has just moved to London with his flighty mother in search of a better life.
