Troell’s impeccably crafted and convincingly acted if rather unfocused and generally uninspired adaptation of Maja Öman’s memoirs explores her and her ever expanding family’s impoverished wartime upbringing, living under the shadow of her father’s heavy drinking and bouts of violence, with her long suffering, amateur photographer mother.
